cutting the cheese

Cutting the cheese!

Haha ok ok so not in the clear the room way! But Saving on cheese..We get the 2 lb block of cheddar and that on a happy cheese week would only last one week.. Well I red an article about someone shredding all there cheese up into portions and freezing part and keeping part out for use, so I thought.. Hmmmm why not try this and see if I can stretch it a little?

So I cut it into 4 pieces the first time and shredded three of them and put into baggies. Then I slice the last block up. I use the cheese grater for it, there is a slicer in the middle of it that until recently have no idea what it was good for. Well it slices it very thin which is perfect because… I’m sure I always use far more then I should :) I will keep the sliced and one shredded baggie out and in the fridge the other two I freeze. I have found that buy doing this ahead of time two things happen… one, I use it in more things because its already ready and two.. I actually use less of it threw out the week because its been prepped in a way to use less. But we ended up running out the sliced once because the monster boy is into cheese sammys and unless it’s a grill cheese sammy its hard to give them one with shredded cheese in it lol… it is /cough funny to watch but lol not worth the mess later.

So this time I sliced two blocks up and shredded the other two. Keep half out and froze the other. The shredded cheese last a lot longer and I think I am using much closer to the right proportions now also. It has stretch it to three weeks which ‘im thrilled about!

So to save money try CUTTING THE CHEESE!

When I was still working I made my lunch at night before I went to bed. My sandwiches sometimes would get soggy, so I started to put my mayo and or mustard between the meat and cheese to keep bread fresh. Just a thought to save time in the morn.

– ya since i make it in the morning its not to bad. i do mayo, ham, tomato then lettuce to keep the bread from getting soggy. nothing worse then trying to eat a wet sammy! — Thanks for the contiuning support grumpy :) miss you!

Kitchen tip tuesday

Posted by puddintane on July 8, 2008

I have been visiting Kitchen tip Tuesday over at Tammy’s Recipes for a couple of months now and love all the new ideas from people. So I thought I would finally put in my own kitchen tip!

My husband takes a lunch to work .. Usually a sandwich, yogurt (or bananas), goodie and pop. For a wile there it was just a plain Swiss and meat Sammy because no one wanted to cut up the produces in the morning to make it a super Sammy. So about 2 months ago I was filling very loving tord the man and thought .. How can I make it easier to give him a better lunch?? Well I found a long shallow Tupperware container not being used for… kids toys… and pulled out are lettuce and tomatoes and two baggies. I sliced up a tomatoes and a small amount of lettuce and bagged them .

In the container I put the lettuce, tomatoes , lunch meat, cheese, mayo and mustard. All the fixens for a super Sammy! Put it in in the fridge and now its all ready to be thrown on some bread! I have been supper nice and make them for him in the morning :) it’s the least I can do, but even on those rare days when he has to make his own its easy enough even for him to make it.

So that’s my kitchen tip.. PREP AHEAD!
god bless
